چکیده

We study the one-loop contributions of matter and radiation to the gravitational polarization tensor at finite temperatures. Using the analytically continued imaginary-time formalism, the contribution of matter is explicitly given to next-to-leading (T ) order. We obtain an exact form for the contribution of radiation fields, expressed in terms of generalized Riemann zeta functions. A general expression is derived for the physical polarization tensor, which is independent of the parametrization of graviton fields. We investigate the effective thermal masses associated with the normal modes of the corresponding graviton self-energy.

A ug 2 00 3 A note on the thermodynamics of gravitational radiation

It is shown that linearized gravitational radiation confined in a cavity can achieve thermal equilibrium if the mean density of the radiation and the size of the cavity satisfy certain constraints. Is it possible, in principle, to confine gravitational radiation in a box, for a time long enough for it to achieve thermal equilibrium? This issue has been investigated before by various authors [1,...

CFD Investigation of Gravitational Sedimentation Effect on Heat Transfer of a Nano-Ferrofluid

In the present attempt, flow behavior and thermal convection of one type of nanofluids in a disc geometry was investigated using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Influence of gravity induced sedimentation also has been studied. The commercial software, Fluent 6.2, has been employed to solve the governing equations. A user defined function was added to apply a uniform external ma...

Connecting Blackbody Radiation, Relativity, and Discrete Charge in Classical Electrodynamics

It is suggested that an understanding of blackbody radiation within classical physics requires the presence of classical electromagnetic zero-point radiation, the restriction to relativistic (Coulomb) scattering systems, and the use of discrete charge. The contrasting scaling properties of nonrelativistic classical mechanics and classical electrodynamics are noted, and it is emphasized that the...

Noninteracting Dark Matter

Since an acceptable dark matter candidate may interact only weakly with ordinary matter and radiation, it is of interest to consider the limiting case where the dark matter interacts only with gravity and itself, the matter originating by the gravitational particle production at the end of inflation. We use the bounds on the present dark mass density and the measured large-scale fluctuations in...
